This self-access class is a recording by COSRT of Professor Ariel Nathanson from his presentation: How templates of infantile sexuality are expressed in adulthood during the COSRT 2024 Summer Conference: Fostering Healthy Intimacy and Relationships through young adulthood.
In this session Silva considers the contemporary LGBTQI+ rights movements and the stigma, prejudice, and discrimination that continue to impact the lives of LGBTQI+ young adults. He encourages the therapist to adopt a Queer lens when working with LGBTQI+ young people and reflect on their own sexuality and the conflicting messages society may give. He argues that minority stress theory continues to be a relevant and useful framework for understanding and improving the health and well-being of sexual and gender minority populations.
About the Trainer
Silva Neves is a COSRT Accredited Psychosexual and Relationship Therapist and Supervisor. He is a Pink Therapy Clinical Associate.
Silva is a member of the editorial board for the leading international journal Sexual and Relationship Therapy. Silva is the author of two books: ‘Compulsive Sexual Behaviours, A Psycho-Sexual Treatment Guide for Clinicians’ and ‘Sexology: The Basics’. He has also co-edited textbooks, contributed chapters to various publications, and is on the Editorial Board of COSRT’s Journal of Sexual and Relationship Therapy. Silva was the recipient of the Sexual Freedom Ally Award in 2023. He speaks internationally.
