This self-access class provides an introduction to working with imagery, alongside an overview of the theoretical background and an introduction to phase-based approaches to Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD). It offers a practical introduction to imagery techniques that can be used in each phase of treatment for CPTSD, and supports an understanding of working with imagery and how to integrate this into a phase-based intervention for Complex PTSD.
- Phase 1: Case studies to illustrate the use of imagery to strengthen resources such as the “perfect nurturer” and figures for strength, protection and compassion; case studies to provide an overview of imagery rescripting to enhance self-efficacy, mastery & control.
- Phase 2: Case studies to illustrate the use of imagery to process and update memories, imagery in reliving, imagery to enhance verbal “updating” in reliving, imagery to manage hyper-arousal/over-engagement with memories.
- Phase 3: Case studies to illustrate the use of method of Loci as a method of consolidating techniques learnt in therapy.
This training includes a short assessment to support learning and reflection. A CPD certificate will be awarded upon successful completion of the course and quiz.

About the Trainer

Dr Georgina Clifford is Director of London Trauma Specialists, a trauma specialist and experienced Clinical Psychologist who worked in specialist trauma services in the NHS for several years.
Dr Georgina Clifford qualified with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) from Royal Holloway, University of London and has completed a PhD at the University of Cambridge: Emotion, memory and the self in complex post-traumatic stress following repeated interpersonal trauma.
Dr Clifford adopts an integrative approach to treatment, using Trauma focused Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), EMDR, Compassion-Focused Therapy and Narrative approaches. She has experience and expertise in treating psychological presentations in the aftermath of traumatic experiences, including: accidents; rape and sexual assault; childhood abuse; domestic violence; trafficking, war and torture. She has a special interest and growing expertise in the area of birth trauma. Dr Clifford takes instruction for expert witness work for the court and her opinion has been accepted in a range of courts, including the Central Criminal Court.
