Lisa Etherson

Lisa Etherson is a qualified psychosexual therapist, PhD researcher, and published academic.

She has been in private practice for over a decade, working with couples and individuals with various psychosexual issues. Lisa became particularly interested in shame, resulting from her own personal experience and what she was observing in clinical practice. However, unable to find much in the literature that matched her own experiences, she decided to embark on a PhD. Her PhD is researching how shame in childhood could influence compulsive sexual behaviour in adult men. As a result of this in-depth exploration of shame, she has produced Shame Containment Theory.

The intention of shame containment theory is to bridge the gap between academia and clinical practice.
