This self-access class shares the most up to date information on what love is. Dr Anna Machin discusses the universalities of the neuroscience of love that underpin our love regardless of age, gender, sexuality and culture.
It will give Psychosexual and Relationship Therapists further information on what causes our individual experiences of love; attachment and biological concepts of love and how our genes might influence how we behave and how we experience love when we are in it.
The class also includes ‘The darker side of love’ and the use of love control and intimate partner violence. Dr Anna Machin also shares information on how our newfound knowledge of what underpins love might affect the way we experience love in the future including the pursuit of love drugs in future therapies and the role of AI in our closest relationships.
About the Presenter

Dr Anna Machin is world-renowned for her pioneering work exploring the science and anthropology of fatherhood and her cross-disciplinary interpretation of human love. She is regularly called upon to share her knowledge about human social relationships and behaviour with the media, public and policymakers.
As one of the few visible female scientists in the media today she has brought her knowledge and infectious enthusiasm for the human sciences to the TV screen in two seasons of Married at First Sight (Channel 4), Meet the Humans (BBC Earth) and Kathy Burke: All Women.
Her first book for a general audience, “The Life of Dad” (Simon & Schuster), was published in June 2018 and is based on her decade of research work at the University of Oxford on fathering. She had just released her second book ‘Why we Love’.
As an anthropologist, she combines hard science with an understanding of the influence of culture, politics and history to give a truly 360 view of our behaviour.
