Surrogacy as a Pathway to Parenthood

£25.00

This self-access class provides factual and practical knowledge about surrogacy and how Psychosexual and Relationship Therapists can offer support throughout.

CPD Hours: 2

This training enables you to gain factual and practical knowledge about surrogacy, both within a fertility clinic and through home insemination.  We will acknowledge the different surrogacy organisations and their different approaches, together with the various introductory platforms now increasingly being used.

It looks at the legal framework, for host/gestational surrogacy and straight/traditional surrogacy, reinforcing the need for independent legal advice for Intended Parent/s and Surrogates and their partners too. The case studies include examples of things progressing positively into parenthood, and when things go wrong, the implications for all involved, especially any child conceived.

Practical resources will be included for you to share in addition to considering different ways of supporting service users as they consider if surrogacy is for them.

You will learn how to support service users, both Intended parents and surrogates by:

  • Gaining enhanced understanding of the impact of the practical processes in the surrogacy journey
  • Understanding the difference between Implications Counselling provided by Accredited Fertility Counsellors and ongoing support counselling, especially around Safeguarding
  • Space for reflection on the impact of fertility treatment and of a surrogate pregnancy, individually, within relationships (IPs and Surrogate & partner and wider networks too)
  • Small group discussions to consider different ways of working and to identify when onward referral can be beneficial for you and your client/s

Ultimately the training aims to myth bust all things Surrogacy, to promote you working confidently.
