This training begins with an overview of the current understanding of compulsive sexual behaviours based on sexology and sex-positivity, to set the context in which couples therapy is conducted.
In the second part of the class, the couple dynamics when the system is affected by sexual compulsivity are explored, as well as the various important considerations in the initial sessions when making assessments.
In Parts 3, 4 and 5, the trainer introduces the three-phase model in working with couples, and some specific interventions that are effective in each of the phases.
Some of the discussions will cover well-known concepts such as “The Drama Triangle”, but this class also invites therapists to expand their repertoire of therapeutic conversations into some courageous dialogues, for the purpose to centralise erotic authenticity, relational growth, and embracing the existential philosophy of being human.
