Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), or body dysmorphia, is a mental health condition where a person spends a lot of time worrying and obsessing about flaws in their appearance. These flaws are often unnoticeable to others but are a major source of anxiety to the sufferer and can hugely impact their daily life.
BDD is often co-morbid with other disorders which can make it complex to work with. People of any age can have BDD, but it’s most common in teenagers and young adults. It affects both men and women.
This course is designed to equip Psychosexual and relationship therapists with the knowledge and skills to effectively work with clients with appearance related mental health conditions including Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD).The course covers the fundamentals of BDD, assessment techniques, therapeutic approaches, and the integration of psychosexual and relationship therapy.
This training gives insights into identifying and addressing BDD in Service Users, enhancing their ability to provide effective support. Giving practical techniques for working with Service Users with BDD, for fostering better therapeutic outcomes.

About the Trainer

Jem Gunn is the Clinical Director at the JEMGUNN Body Image Therapy Centre, which provides a range of services for appearance related mental health conditions, with a particular focus on Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD); providing clinical supervision, training courses, therapeutic coaching, and support groups.
Drawing from a rich background in Transactional Analysis Counselling, Integrative Psychotherapy, and Coaching, Jem seamlessly integrates personal lived experience of BDD with extensive clinical expertise, to offer compassionate and effective support to her clients.
Using an evidence-based approach, Jem is deeply committed to reducing stigma, fostering awareness, and empowering both individuals and professionals within the realm of mental health and body image.
As a dynamic presenter and educator, Jem has showcased her insights on BDD and body image therapy through multiple platforms including TED.com, various podcasts interviews, webinars, and in-person workshops for BACP & UKATA.
