Modern Dating and Commitment: Insights for Psychosexual and Relationship Therapists

£20.00

This self-access class explores everything from dating apps and hook-ups to marriage and non-monogamies to help Psychosexual and Relationship Therapists map the experiences that Service Users may bring.

CPD Hours: 2

Dating apps, the surge in the availability of pornography, the pandemic/lockdowns, and a radically different approach to relationships have meant more people are seeking help from therapists around dating and commitment. Psychosexual and Relationship Therapists, in particular, are often expected to be familiar with modern dating behaviours and trends and to be able to offer clients relevant information and research news as well as support them with their issues, ranging from how to find or keep a partner to how to break up, as well as successfully and ethically managing ‘casual’ relationships, commitment, and consent.

Exploring everything from dating apps and hook-ups to marriage and non-monogamies, this seminar will map the experiences your clients may bring. Advice on how we can tackle their issues and how couples can be helped to successfully transition into a long-term relationship will be included, with an emphasis on the early issues couples present with.

This training session is a recording from a live session held in July 2024.

Contents:

1. Contemporary Dating
An overview of modern dating, the kinds of relationships, behaviours and experiences people are encountering and their effects.

2.  Dating and Commitment Issues
Presenting issues and therapeutic responses, providing help to navigate through unfamiliar expectations as well as common problems.

3.  Beyond Dating: Establishing Relationships
A discussion of ways for couples to manage casual relationships or transition into more commitment, with advice on future proofing.
