From the Autumn 21 Conference. This self-access class explores understanding barriers with disabled people and how therapists can work to overcome these through learning and adaptation.

This two-hour training explores how Psychosexual and Relationship Therapists can effectively engage with disabled people within therapy.  A key emphasis will be understanding barriers and how therapists can work to overcome these through learning and adaptation.

About the presenter

Alex Cowan

The session is presented by Alex Cowan.

Alex is a disability consultant, trainer, writer and speaker. She runs training workshops, and speaks and consults on numerous issues including the interplay between sex, intimacy, relationships and body image.  Alex has appeared in press and media including the Sex Education Show on Channel 4, the Pleasure Podcast, and Good Housekeeping magazine.  She has contributed to conferences including those held by the British Society for Sexual Medicine (BSSM) and the Sussex Association of Chartered Physiotherapists In Urology (ACPIN) and co-developed the ‘Sexual Respect Toolkit’  an online resource for health professionals to raise and discuss issues of sex and sexuality.
