This self-access class focuses on the role of the Internet in people’s romantic relationships, with an emphasis on social media.

Technology has become ubiquitous in people’s lives, and thus it is important for Psychosexual and Relationship Therapists to understand the unique ways it may affect their Service Users intimate relationships.

Topics covered will include:

  • The distracting effects of technology,
  • How and why people present their romantic relationships on social media,
  • Jealousy and interactions with ex-partners on social media, and
  • Online dating.

Learners will become familiar with basic research on these topics that will enable them to help clients navigate technology-related challenges in their romantic relationships.

About the Trainer

Dr. Gwendolyn Seidman is a Professor of Psychology at Albright College in Reading, PA, USA. She earned her Ph.D. in social psychology from New York University in 2006.

She specializes in the study of close relationships and the psychology of the Internet. She has published over two dozen articles on these topics and maintains a regular blog at Psychology Today Magazine, where she shares the science of technology and relationships with a popular audience.
