This self-access class explores the unique challenges when working with Service Users whose partners self-identify as having a compulsive sexual behaviour disorder (sometimes described using terms such as sex or porn addiction).
The most common emotional reactions of partners who have experienced long term deceit within their relationship will be explored and how they differ from working with partners where infidelity has been discovered.
A relational trauma model will be offered to help therapists understand the devastating impact that many partners experience with case examples to illustrate. Therapists will also learn how the evolving nature of living with a partner with a compulsive sexual behaviour disorder means for many partners, the trauma is not an event that is in the past, but rather one that is ongoing. An outline of essential therapeutic tasks will be provided for therapists to use to help partners establish emotional stability and consider their future relationship options.
