CPD Hours: 1

How do we, as Supervisors, distinguish what is psychosexual therapy and what is a relationship issue?

Very often Service Users present with a sexual issue when it emerges that it is more of an issue of a disruption of intimacy within their relationship which is impacting sex. Sex and relationship are often so intricately bound together its hard to distinguish where one ends and other starts. However, the main issue here for Supervisors is that they may require different types and focus within the supervisory relationship.

So, this can present us with a dilemma, how to supervise both aspects and how do we help our supervisees to negotiate their way through. It brings into play not only clinical issues but also organisational boundaries depending on where clients are seen and Psychosexual and Relationship Therapists own level of qualification and competency in working with such complex issues.

This self-access class, for Supervisors, explores at the main differences between supervising psychosexual therapy and relationship work, examining the different approaches that can be used.
