The prevalence of death by suicide is increasing, it remains the most common cause of death for young men under fifty who tend to commit suicide violently which in turn has a serious effect on the familied left behind.
Research shows that at least twenty people are profoundly affected by bereavement with each suicide, and are left asking why, what they missed and what they could have done differently to have stopped this happening.
As Psychosexual and Relationship Therapists, we have a vital role to play in recognising, assessing, and managing the risk of suicide as for many broken relationships or problematic sexual behaviours may be the trigger.
This self-access class explores the issue of suicide in the context of psychosexual and relationship therapy. It provides a basic overview of the knowledge and skills needed to know what to ask, say, and do in relation to suicidal ideation and intent.
